The building that now houses the Cape Fear Museum of Art was originally built as a textile mill in 1892. In 1984, the building was acquired by the City of Wilmington and it opened as a museum three years later. In 2002, an addition was made to the museum which doubled its size and allowed for more contemporary exhibitions to be hosted.
The Cape Fear Museum of Art is open Monday through Saturday 9am to 5pm, Sunday 1pm to 5pm. Admission is free for members and guests with active military ID, as well as for children 12 years old and younger when accompanied by an adult.
